Leading carbon reduction expert Paul Hinds has helped Natural England slash its carbon footprint by 50%.

With just a £300,000 investment budget, Natural England, an independent public body which aims to protect and improve England’s natural environment, has managed to save up to £2m on energy and travel in just three years.

Mr Hinds told the Greening the Public Sector conference in London this week that involving and inspiring staff to be energy efficient was crucial to successfully achieving carbon reduction. Good leadership and communication combined with solid evidence and innovation were also key.

Since joining Natural England, Mr Hinds has helped to reduce carbon emissions by 30% and is on track to reach the 50% target by the end of this year.
