Altra have been hired by JV Gas, a consortium made of BP, Sonatrach and Statoil to improve capacity at the plant in north Africa to allow more gas to be extracted within safer conditions.

Daniel McGowan, Managing Director of Altra Energy said: “The planned capacity trial will give JV Gas the confidence needed to increase all three of its product streams- natural gas, LPG and condensate and ultimately make the plant more efficient. We are extremely pleased to win this tender following our earlier evaluation project.”

The In Amenas LPG wet gas processing facility is located in southern eastern Algeria. Wet gas is a mix of hydrocarbons that will condense when brought to the surface. An internal study by BP revealed the facility has the potential of increasing the gas throughput by over 10%.

Altra Energy specialises in process, safety, maintenance reliability and structural engineering services to the global oil and gas industry. In the next three years the firm intends to increase turnover from £5 million to £25 million and create around 200 new jobs.
