In the last month, only 10 organisations have registered for the CRC, bringing the total to 2,789… several hundred short of the estimated total of companies that should be in it.

The deadline to register was October 1 and while 2,731 made it on time, many firms missed it. The Environment Agency, which administers the scheme, issued an amnesty to these companies provided they had at least been in touch prior to the deadline to initiate proceedings.

But more than two months on, the tally is way short of the expected total, thought to be between 3,000 and 4,000.

The government has launched a formal consultation on plans to simplify CRC, with the deadline for responses this Friday (December 17).

The main proposed amendments include extending the introductory phase and postpone the start of Phase 2 until 2013 and the removal of the information disclosure requirement.
