A survey has revealed that 80% of farmers want to have solar panels on their roofs by 2013.

The research by PV company Solarcentury and sustainability organisation Forum for the Future revealed that demand for renewable technologies has increased on the back of the introduction of Feed-in-Tariffs.

Indeed, the survey found that 88% of farmers are currently considering installing renewable systems on their farm, where large buildings can provide ample space for numerous solar panels.

Madeleine Lewis from Forum for the Future’s campaign Farming Futures said: “This survey shows that on-farm building solar PV is likely to become commonplace in the not-too-distant future.

“We have seen a real appetite for investing in solar this year, and it’s great to see so many farmers recognising this opportunity to create an income and diversify – as well as contribute to developing a low carbon economy in the UK.”
