The Government has been warned by environmental campaigners to make sure the Renewable Heat Incentive only rewards completely sustainable heat sources.

Alan Simpson, Sustainable Energy Advisor to Friends of the Earth said: “An ambitious Renewable Heat Incentive will allow people to earn and save moneyby heating their homes and workplaces using clean energy.

“But there are serious concerns about the surge in the use of unsustainablebiomass and incineration these proposals could encourage – the scheme must onlypromote genuinely green and sustainable sources of heat.”

His comments come after the Renewable Heat Incentive was announced today by Energy Secretary Chris Huhne.
