Google is making it easier for Electric Vehicle users to charge their car, by adding charging points to its online map service.

Users can search on Google Maps for “ev charging station” followed by the appropriate area.

According to the search engine’s official blog: “As consumers embrace electric vehicles, we’ve also been adding information to Google Maps over the past few months to help users find charging stations.”

While the service is more extensive in the US, where there are over 600 EV charging points, the serach engine will be adding more locations in the UK.

Google may struggle to keep up, as London Mayor Boris Johnson recently announced the launch of a citywide electric vehicle charging network called Source London, which is set to deliver 1,300 public charge points across the city by 2013.

Organisations like the EV Network UK also offer an online search tool for local EV stations.
