The oil and gas sector has the chance to shake off the worries of recent months with opening of nominations for the trade body’s upcoming 2011 Oil & Gas UK Awards.

Oil & Gas UK hopes it will show off the work that young members of the industry are doing with awards like Young Technician of the Year.

Trisha O’Reilly, Oil & Gas UK’s communications director said: “Currently we face not only the economic and technical challenges of maximising production from the UK’s maturing oil and gas province but also the implications of the fiscal changes announced in the 2011 Budget.

“The industry will need to draw on all its resourceful energy, technical virtuosity and collaborative spirit to face these challenges. These will be the qualities which we will be celebrating when we announce the award-winning individuals and companies on 3 November.”

A corporate award for people development will be given, with innovation in efficiency another area Oil & Gas UK want to highlight with their Business Efficiency category.

The role of older industry workers in sharing their knowledge and expertise with the next generation will be recognised too with an award for mentoring.

Corporate and individual categories are open for nominations on Monday 6 June at: www.oilandgasuk.co.uk/2011awards
