A solar array has, for the first time, been built on a UK business park. 3,000 solar panels have been built on Howbery Business Park in Wallingford Oxfordshire and will supply power for over a quarter of its needs.
The engineering and construction was carried out by British company Solarcentury. Having built arrays in Europe, this is their first in the UK after the government introduced the solar Feed-In Tariff last year.
Generating 682 MWh of clean electricity a year for the centre, Howbery Business Park houses nearly 1,000 employees working in more than 20 businesses.
Derry Newman, CEO at Solarcentury said: “The solar at Howbery Business Park provides a glimpse of how this technology can contribute to our clean energy future, hinting at the serious role solar power can play in our energy mix. Solar is not to be underestimated; it is the fastest growing energy technology in the world, simply because it is clean, reliable and a readily available alternative to fossil fuels.”
