Honda’s plans for a wind farm at their car factory in Swindon is under threat from local opposition. The company had planned to team up with green energy company Ecotricity to build three turbines, but yesterday it submitted a back up proposal for just two turbines at the site.

Local residents had voiced concerns over potential noise and light pollution from the wind farms.

Honda denied that the company was backing out of low carbon commitments. A spokesperson said: “We don’t see it as a u-turn. We need these turbines to comply with our environmental and carbon reduction activities. We fundamentally believe the plans are feasible.
