Global car hire firm Hertz is expanding its electric car hire service to China. It will be the first electric vehicle (EV) rental scheme in the country.

The Chinese Government has embraced the development of EVs, including them in the country’s latest Five Year Plan for the economy. It has also begun a pilot EV scheme in Shanghai, which Hertz has also signed up to work on.

Mark P. Frissora, Hertz Chairman and CEO said: “China has committed to rapidly expand electric vehicle travel and Hertz is committed to supporting the important EV Pilot City programme.”
