A demonstration is expected to blockade an EDF nuclear power station on Monday. The Stop Hinkley Group say 100 people will come from all over the country to block the plant’s entrance.

EDF plans to build two new reactors at the Hinkley Point plant, which could generate 6% of the UK’s total energy. Local resident Nikki Clark said: “We don’t trust nuclear power and a lot of local people are saying enough is enough.”

EDF Energy say Hinkley C would bring £100m a year into Somerset during its construction, employing 5,000 on site and would generate £40m a year during its 60-year operation, as well as 900 permanent jobs.

The demo will be follow a march and rally in Bridgwater on Saturday 1st October will run from 1-4pm.
