Figures from Lloyds bank, Vestas, Siemens, DONG Energy and Centrica are to join an official team tasked with cutting offshore wind costs.

Energy Minister Charles Hendry unveiled the members of the Offshore Wind Cost Reduction Task Force, which was first announced as part of the Government’s Renewable Energy Roadmap in July.

Mr Hendry said: “I am pleased to be able to announce the members that will spearhead this vital work to drive down the costs of delivering our offshore wind ambitions. This Task Force will provide the strong leadership and vision required to grow our offshore wind sector in the next decade and beyond.”

The group will be chaired by Andrew Jamieson, current Chair of industry body Renewable UK. Meanwhile CEO of the Government quango The Carbon Trust, Tom Delay takes a seat in the group, while energy companies will be represented by DONG Energy and British Gas-owner Centrica.
