The Government’s slice of petrol pump prices has shrunk significantly in the last decade. According to figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) this week, the amount going to the Government has dropped from 81% ten years ago to 66% in 2009-10. The ONS suggests this is because the rise in petrol duty has not kept up with overall fuel price rises.
