The recent weather in the UK has left many without power or able to use transport as a result of severe gales. It was thought around 140,000 homes were without power yesterday in Scotland as power lines were brought down in many areas.

According to the BBC over a thousand engineers were trying to reconnect areas of the UK, but blocked roads and harsh conditions with winds topping 100mph were making this difficult.

ScottishPower said in a statement that the biggest issue affecting the electricity network has been uprooted trees and other debris blown on to overhead power lines.
