The world’s second largest oil consumer China saw its oil demand rise to the highest ever level in December last year, according to Platts analysis of Chinese government figures. The energy information provider found it was the first time Chinese oil demand breached 9 million barrels per day for a full year. Calvin Lee, Platts’ senior writer for China said: “Even with the relatively slow rate of growth at the end of the year, the actual demand for December was the highest daily rate the country’s oil demand has ever reached.”
