China is banning its airlines from falling in line with Europe’s emissions trading scheme (EU ETS), according to reports.

The EU recently brought in a law which means all air travel through Europe must be offset by emissions allowances, bought under the EU ETS.

The EU law is proving controversial with a set of American and Canadian airlines challenging it in court last year because they claimed it would be too costly and push up ticket prices. Their case was rejected by EU courts.
