Around 30-35 firefighters are still working on the damaged npower biomass plant at Tilbury and expect to remain in place over the next few days. A fire broke out in two fuel hoppers at the power station on Monday morning.

The two fuel storage areas affected, units 9 and 10, are still being emptied of fuel. npower said today in a statement they were still unsure what started the blaze: “We have begun a full internal investigation to determine the cause of the incident and will continue to review the extent of the damage to the station over the coming days.”

The crews from Essex Fire Service continue to cover the affected hoppers with foam from three high expansion foam generators.
