Japan could turn to solar power as part of its recovery from the Fukushima nuclear disaster last year. According to reports, the Asian superpower is drafting proposals for a solar Feed-in Tariff scheme to encourage investors to enter the solar industry.

The new FiT scheme could be introduced by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in July. The draft plans would apparently see utilities paying ¥42 (32 pence) per kwh for solar over 20 years.

The country needs to make up a serious shortfall in energy supply as it has shut down around 50 nuclear power plants in the wake of the Fukushima meltdown.
