Mayor of London Boris Johnson has re-emphasised his commitment to creating green jobs for London.

Retrofitting tens of thousands of buildings could play a key part in this, with the Mayor’s office hoping to scale up existing projects.

That includes two building retrofit programmes which are designed to cut CO2 emission in public sector buildings (RE:FIT) and help householders to improve the energy efficiency of their homes (RE:NEW).

The schemes could be expanded since changes to the Mayor’s new housing powers, announced by Government back in February, with the Greater London Authority becoming the biggest public landowner in London.

The Mayor said: “Creating jobs and stimulating growth are my top priorities for the next four years. A key part of this is my determination to deliver a world class quality of life and strong, healthy communities.”
