The EU needs to show “strong leadership” if it is to bring countries back on track to creating an internal energy market on schedule.
Finnish utility Fortum wants to see action from the EU so the European market can begin working within two years.
Fortum’s President and CEO Tapio Kuula said yesterday: “The EU Commission should take a strong leadership to bring member states back on track to reach a fully functioning internal energy market by 2014 as decided last year.
“European Member States are, however, developing national strategies and mechanisms, which compromise rather than support the target,” he told the Eurelectric Annual Conference in Malta.
European leaders decided last year that a fully functioning internal energy market should be in place by 2014.
