Scotland is set to help develop a marine energy facility in South Korea, it was announced today.

The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC), based in Orkney, signed an agreement with Incheon Metropolitan City (IMC) to provide technical assistance on the design, building and operation of a tidal energy testing centre in the city.

The city, located in the north west of South Korea, wants to harness the power of the sea off its western coast.

Richard Morris, Commercial Director at EMEC said: “South Korea has a superb resource, with some of the world’s most active tidal waters off its shores and the administration’s drive to harness that power is commendable.”

Earlier this year, the British embassy in Seoul also joined forces with a UK energy consultancy firm for an offshore wind project.
