A UK engineering and construction firm has been awarded a contract to build a gas-to-chemicals facility in Brazil.

Foster Wheeler’s agreement for Petrobras’ ‘Complexo Gas-Quimico UFN-IV’ will include design, technical assistance and training during the construction phase up until the successful completion of the plant.

The plant is expected to produce more than 1million tonnes per annum of ammonia and fertilisers, methanol and acetic acid in a bid to help Brazil reduce imports of these products.

The design phase is scheduled for completion at the end of 2013.
