Consumers are running out of time to snap up a cheap energy deal and protect themselves from the rise in prices.

Price comparison site uSwitch.com made the comment after EDF Energy and First Utility pulled its cheapest tariff plans off the market.

Experts have warned of energy price rises by the end of the year, urging customers to take action now if they want to avoid the hike.

Tom Lyon, Energy Expert at the site said: “Consumers who want to fix their energy prices cannot afford to hang around. The cost of fixed price plans is creeping upwards and exit penalties are creeping back in.”

Last month energy supplier SSE announced a 9% rise in gas and electricity prices, which was labelled as a “serious blow” to UK consumers.
