The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Russia signed an agreement for cooperation in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

The ‘Intergovernmental Agreement’ was signed by the head of the Russian nuclear corporation ROSATOM and UAE’s Deputy Energy Minister.

Sergey Kirienko, Director General of ROSATOM said: “This is an integrated agreement which provides for the cooperation in all spheres of nuclear power from uranium mining, fabrication of fuel and equipment, as well as research and construction of nuclear power plants, i.e. the entire cycle of the civil nuclear power.”

Work on the agreement is believed to have been carried out since 2009 and includes the necessary legal terms and conditions for full-scale development of the Russia-UAE nuclear cooperation.

Currently, ROSATOM has 28 nuclear power projects at different stages of completion – with nine units in Russia and the rest abroad.
