Home decoration could be about to get a fresh energetic spin with new transparent solar panels which can be dyed different colours.

The cells can be printed directly onto glass in a range of sizes and could be used by builders in glazing panels and facades.

The Oxford-based firm which makes the new solar cells – originally developed by University of Oxford researchers – has just attracted £2million worth of funding to bring them to market.

Kevin Arthur, Oxford Photovoltaics’ chief executive said: “Our new product development facility at Begbroke will incorporate state of the art printing techniques to enable us to manufacture larger modules.”

He added a new test facility will fast track plans to make panels which meet international standards.
