A picture has always painted a thousand words – but now it could save a thousand watts too if a new photography competition is effective.

Energy efficiency website Yougen wants homes and firms from around the UK to send in photos of ways they have saved energy for the chance to win an energy saving pack worth £157.

Images sent in so far include a woman from Totnes with her fluffy white dog and their solar PV panels (pictured) and a dreadlocked young man taking a bath out in the countryside.

Cathy Debenham, founder of YouGen said: “Seeing what others have done and hearing about the difference it makes can help reassure people that it’s not all just hype, and that the benefits are significant.”

Entrants can upload their images via Facebook or tweet them using the hashtag #yougenphoto on Twitter.
