An electric carmaker in the United States has filed for bankruptcy, it was reported this week. Hot on the heels of Israeli electric car services firm Better Place going bust, another green vehicle idea has struggled to take off.

Miles Electric Vehicles advertised two low-speed models – a car and a truck – for customers and its website states they are on 30 American university or school campuses.

The California-based firm seems to have failed to live up to its name as court documents show it has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, reported Reuters, which generally means a firm needs some breathing time to restructure its debts.
