Volvo has teamed up with British Gas to help drivers of the world’s first plug-in diesel hybrid keep theirs cars charged and on the road.

British Gas is to provide a free car charging package to anyone who buys the new V60 D6 AWD (pictured) before 2015. It includes a home charge point and access to the national POLAR charging network.

The home charge point comes with free installation and is data enabled so drivers can track energy use online or with a smartphone app.

The POLAR network has 1,800 charging points around the country and drivers will be able to access it for free until the end of March 2014.

Volvo initially planned to make 150 of the cars for sale in the UK but have doubled the number in response to demand. They are hoping to produce 10,000 of them worldwide in 2014.
