The Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Ed Davey has been presented with a petition signed by nearly 60,000 calling for communities to be empowered to take control of their own energy.
The petition was presented by the Community Energy Coalition, which has been showcasing local energy projects across the country as part of their Community Energy Fortnight.
On receiving the petition Mr Davey said he was “delighted” to see the “fantastic level of support” for community energy across the country.
Mr Davey added: “Community energy projects have great benefits for local communities, creating jobs, reducing bills, developing peoples’ skills and injecting investment across the country. I want to see more communities stepping up to take control of how they reduce, generate and buy their energy together. Later this year the Government will publish a Community Energy Strategy setting out our vision and a clear plan of action to make it happen.”
