An offshore wind farm believed to be the largest in Denmark was officially inaugurated by Her Majesty the Queen (pictured, second from left) of Denmark.

The Anholt wind farm has a total capacity of 400MW and is expected to generate enough electricity to power around 400,000 households.

DONG Energy, which developed and installed the project, owns 50% of the wind farm and will be operating it.

Henrik Poulsen, CEO of DONG Energy said: “Today, offshore wind is the fastest growing energy technology in Europe and Anholt Offshore Wind Farm is the latest example of DONG Energy’s position as market leader within offshore wind farms. It’s our aim to maintain this position and at the same time contribute to developing the technology and the industry.”

A miniature version of the offshore wind farm was built in Denmark’s LEGOLAND earlier this year.
