SSE-keadby-wind-farmThe first power from what is claimed will be the largest onshore wind farm in England has been produced and exported to the National Grid.

The 68MW Keadby wind farm (pictured) in north Lincolnshire, which is due for completion in summer 2014, will include 34 turbines.

Once fully commissioned, it is expected to produce enough electricity to power more than 57,000 households.

Situated adjacent to energy firm SSE’s Keadby Power Station, the wind project was given consent in 2008 and was bought by the supplier in 2011. Danish wind manufacturer Vestas won the order to supply the turbines last year.

David Sutton, Keadby Wind Farm Project Manager said: “Once the turbines are installed, they undergo rigorous testing and commissioning before they can be declared operational. This is an exciting point in the construction process and it’s great to see the first turbines generating electricity.”

Earlier this year, Britain officially opened the world’s largest and second largest offshore wind farm in the world.
