Britain’s energy market isn’t broken and our energy isn’t that expensive according to npower’s Product and Services Optimisation Manager Magali Hodgson (pictured, centre).

Speaking during the Market Madness segment at Energy Live 2013 today she said: “We’ve got to move away from saying the system is broken, it’s not working.

“Yes there are better ways of doing it I’m sure – the taxes are a burden.”

But she added: “If you look at the unit price in the UK compared across Europe we are not expensive. We are in the lowest five across Europe.”

Mrs Hodgson said there were ways for business to manage costs by increasing transparency and ultimately “using less”.

She continued: “I know it’s a bit cheesy but it’s what you have to do.”
