Three oil workers have drowned after an offshore oil platform in Saudi Arabia sank into the ocean on Friday.

The platform was in the Safaniya oil field in the Persian Gulf, said to be the largest offshore field in the world.

Saudi Arabian oil firm Aramco said the recovered bodies of three missing workers, two Indians and a Bangladeshi, have been given to the authorities.

In a statement the firm’s management expressed its deep regret and condolences for the families of those who died, reported Saudi news agency SPA.

Other workers were rescued by boat and helicopter.
