Sunergy the Chinese solar panel manufacturer has sold a Cornish solar farm to UK generator Lightsource Renewable Energy

Based in the southwest of Cornwall, the 5MW solar project was hooked up to the grid at the end of March 2013 and generates enough to power more than 1500 households.

Built on farmland traditionally used by cattle and crops, the developers said cash from the project will aid farm owners buy improved machinery, fencing and hedgerows.

Nick Boyle, CEO of the UK firm said: “We are delighted to have completed this deal with China Sunergy and believe that this project, like our many others, will once again boost the rural economy in this area as well as allow further biodiversity.”

Lightsource manages more than 2,200 acres of farmland with commercial solar farms.
