Firms in Kent are being called on by wind farm developer Vattenfall to take part in an offshore scheme, offering as much as £50 million in potential business opportunities.

The Swedish firm is investing £150 million in developing the 15-turbine Kentish Flats Extension project after being granted consent by the UK Government last year. The wind farm (pictured), located off the coast of Kent, currently has 30 wind turbines installed.

It is working with the main contractors for the scheme to connect with small and meidum sized businesses in the region with the aim of offering contracts for the project.

Matthew Green, Vattenfall’s Project Manager for the construction of Kentish Flats Extension said: “Vattenfall has wanted to give local business the edge in winning contracts for Kentish Flats Extension. We are pleased that all of our main suppliers will attend and we expect them to fulfil a commitment to maximise local and regional content in this major investment.”

Once operational, the additional turbines will produce enough electricity to power around 42,000 local homes.
