Google has signed a new agreement to buy all electricity generated from a wind farm in southern Sweden.

The 29-turbine project, which will have a total capacity of 59MW, will be developed by Swedish firm Eolus Vind AB – and is expected to be operational early next year.

It is the internet search engine giant’s second 10-year renewable energy deal in Sweden, the first of which was signed last June.

Francois Sterin, Head of Global Infrastructure at Google said: “Long-term contracts as this will allow wind developers to add additional capacity to the market, which benefits the environment and is also the economic sense for companies like Google.”

Last week it also announced it is investing $75 million (£46m) in a wind farm in Texas.
