The US Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering and Support Centre has awarded a further 20 contracts to companies for renewable energy projects.

They include 12 solar, three wind and two biomass technologies and are part of a $7 billion (£4.2bn) Multiple Award Task Order Contract (MATOC) for large-scale renewable and alternative energy production.

The projects are expected to help the Army meet its target of generating 25% of energy from renewable sources by 2025.

Contractors who qualify through the process will be able to compete for future projects within their area for any renewable energy task order issued under the MATOC by the Army or Department of Defense (DoD).

Col. Robert Ruch, Commander, Huntsville Centre said: “We are adding these additional companies to those already in the technology pools to ensure we have enough pre-qualified companies ready to submit proposals on task orders as they come up.”

The new deals bring the total number of awarded contracts to 79 as part of the MATOC.
