Edgbaston cricket stadium is going to reinvest the cash it saves through energy efficiency in green community projects.

The home of Warwickshire County Cricket Club hopes to launch a new foundation using the proceeds of its new energy saving programme.

Gareth Roberts, Commercial Director of the stadium and county club told ELN: “The savings that come through making this more efficient will be channelled back into a new foundation we’ll launch over next couple of months, the Edgbaston Foundation.”

“It will be responsible for community projects, some will be used to drive more energy efficient programmes in cricket clubs and schools,” he added. The club’s new Official Energy Partner WINGAS UK will play a part in this.

Mr Roberts agreed sports venues can show spectators the way towards efficiency: “It’s making them realise they are coming to a stadium which has it on the agenda.

“We’re pretty prominent outside the city centre. Everyone could look at it and say, that uses a lot of energy, it wastes a lot… So we want to show we’re doing our bit.”
