Aberdeen-based energy services company Wood Group has bagged a £36 million contract with BP in Azerbaijan.

The deal will cover engineering and project management services for the Shah Deniz gas field in the South Caspian Sea off the coast of Azerbaijan.

Last year a group of companies led by BP signed a multi-billion dollar deal to pipe natural gas from the Shah Deniz field to Europe. Around 16 billion cubic metres per year (bcma) of gas produced in the giant field will be carried 3,500 kilometres to EU nations.

Steve Wayman, CEO of Wood Group Kenny said: “We have worked with BP Azerbaijan for a number of years and the award of this contract enables us to extend and reinforce that long-standing relationship.”

The company has worked with BP on the Shah Deniz project since 2008.
