World Cup organisers have encouraged ticket holders to counter the carbon emissions from their journey to Brazil.

They were asked to sign up to an official scheme offsetting emissions for free, no matter where in the world they are travelling from.

All ticket holders with a valid FIFA.com Club account and a successful ticket request reference ID could sign up.

At the time the scheme was launched, Federico Addiechi, Head of FIFA Corporate Social Responsibility said: “We are encouraging fans to neutralise the carbon emissions resulting from their travel to Brazil.

“At the same time we use the FIFA World Cup as an opportunity to engage with millions of people and raise awareness of the environmental impact of our journeys and the ways to mitigate it.”

Carbon will be countered from low carbon Brazilian projects due to be announced this month.

The non-profit carbon management programme BP Target Neutral picked the projects.
