Wind energy’s contribution to the grid is expected to pick up significantly next week after “disappointing” generation this week.

That’s according to the daily market report from npower which noted energy prices opened “flat” this morning.

Steven Walker, Client Portfolio Manager said: “Wind feed-in continues to disappoint. The forecasts for next week remain good, with up to 5GW of feed-in across the peak from Monday.”

The summer’s usual spate of power plant closures for maintenance goes on, with plenty of outages being “shuffled around”, he said.

There are “lots of changes that we’re continually monitoring throughout the day,” according to Mr Walker, including Staythorpe taking an extra 400MW offline for eight days from 9 August.

These reshuffles should be offset by extra capacity coming online at Drax, he said.
