First power has been generated from the 210MW offshore wind farm being built in the east of England.

Electricity from the first turbine in the Westermost Rough project is now being exported to the National Grid, marking a major milestone less than a month after the first 30 turbines were installed.

The wind farm will have 35 turbines in total – capable of generating enough clean electricity to power around 200,000 homes. The remaining turbines are expected to be installed by the first half of 2015.

The project is a joint venture between DONG Energy (50%) and its partners Marubeni Corporation (25%) and the UK Green Investment Bank (25%).
