In a rapidly evolving energy world, clients rely on Gemserv’s expertise to help make markets work efficiently and with integrity.

Gemserv works at the heart of the utilities industries, across electricity, gas, water, environment, telecoms and information security.

We play a key role in the design of retail markets, offering governance and assurance services to government departments, regulators and industry bodies in both the UK and Ireland. Projects are also carried out with individual companies when there are industry-wide benefits which can be shared.

Our wide-ranging expertise means we are involved in many of the major policy developments and industry initiatives across our various sectors.

Our Energy team has over 100 years’ industry experience, spanning the electricity, gas and renewable sectors.

We perform the role of Smart Energy Code Administration and Secretariat (SECAS), developing and maintaining the Smart Energy Code that sits at the heart of GB smart metering. We also supported the implementation of the UK Government’s energy efficiency programme, the Green Deal, by establishing frameworks and making amendments to the Master Registration Agreement (MRA).

Longstanding roles Gemserv carries out in the industry include acting as the Registration Authority for the Meter Operation Code of Practice Agreement (MOCOPA) and administration of the Electricity Central Online Enquiry Service (ECOES). In addition, we have acted as service provider for a number of organisations including the Gas Forum, the Association of Meter Operators (AMO), the Independent Gas Transporters’ Uniform Network Code (iGT UNC) and the UK Metering Forum (UKMF).

On the Environment side, we are the Oversight and Registration Body for the Green Deal (GD ORB) and the Licensee for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). We are also the scheme administrators for the Biomass Suppliers List, supporting the recently launched Renewable Heat Incentive. We also offer support and advice for organisations looking to achieve ISO 50001.

Our Water team works directly with water companies, preparing them for market reform in 2017. Our experience working with the Water Industry Commission for Scotland (WICS) to support the introduction of retail competition gives us a strong understanding of the issues water companies face as the industry undergoes complex change.

Our Information Security arm, Red Island, supports organisations to achieve ISO 27001 compliance. We also offer PCI DSS compliance services, making sure organisations collecting credit card payments are doing so in a secure manner.

Although the focus of our work is at the market level, much of what we do directly benefits consumers. For example, we have worked with Energy UK to develop the Compare my Energy website to help promote energy efficiency in the home.
