A new campaign that aims to build awareness of the “important and growing role” offshore wind is playing in the UK’s transition to a low carbon energy mix has been launched.

DONG Energy’s ‘Offshore Wind Works’ advert suggests offshore wind is “Britain’s greatest untapped energy resource”. Platform posters across the London underground network and advertisements are being used to get the message across in the next few weeks.

New research commissioned by the company found a very low awareness of the part offshore wind is playing in the nation’s energy mix despite it powering around two million homes and supporting more than 18,000 jobs.

Brent Cheshire, UK Country Chairman of DONG Energy said: “With the energy debate gathering momentum, this is an important time to ensure that the arguments for offshore wind are clearly articulated as the future of our energy mix is considered.

“We want to give people the facts so that they can build an informed view of the current achievements and future potential of offshore wind.”
