For the slight sum of £50.16, members of the public can own shares in green energy projects via a new group investment scheme.

The “crowdfunding” style share offering means individuals can have a hand in a £5 million funding pot to develop renewable energy projects.

Share prices are set at £2.28 per new ordinary share.

It is run by Triodos Renewables – the green investment arm of sustainable bank Triodos – with the help of crowdfunding firm Trillion Fund.

Executive Director Matthew Clayton said: “We’ve decided to lower our minimum investment because we believe that investing in renewable energy should be an option to everyone and we want to provide a rewarding connection with renewable energy for even more people.”

Triodos Renewables has 11 renewable energy projects across the UK totalling 53 megawatts (MW), including the recently built Avonmouth wind farm near Bristol.
