IKEA has launched its range of residential solar panels in the Netherlands.

It is the second country where the Swedish furniture retailer is offering solar panels to customers in store following a successful pilot in the UK, with 1,500 systems sold so far.

IKEA has teamed up with solar firm Hanergy to sell the panels to Dutch consumers.

A 2.5KW system and installation will set back a typical homeowner €4,400 (£3,466) but it could be recouped through a 10.5% annual return on investment, the company said.

Lisen Wirén, IKEA Netherlands Sustainability Manager said: “It’s the perfect solution for our customers, who want to live sustainably and save energy at the same time, without too high an investment.”

Last month IKEA announced it would widen sales of home rooftop solar panels to eight other European nations.
