Researchers at Cardiff University are looking into new ways of creating a “super grid” that will allow the EU to share the energy it creates.

The project, a Multi-terminal DC Grid for Offshore Wind (MEDOW), will work with five universities and six industrial companies to create the concept.

The funding is likely to come from the Horizon 2020 Programme that provides money to the EU companies to “turn good ideas into innovation”.

Professor Nick Jenkins at Cardiff University said: “Energy affects nearly every aspect of our lives and so finding ways of ensuring a cleaner, affordable and more secure energy supply is not an ideal, it’s essential.”
