Four OBEs in the New Years Honours list were dished out to people for services to green energy.

The “green” total rises to five counting one for the operations manager of a pilot project for carbon capture and storage (CCS).

These include Siemens’ Managing Director for Energy, Matthew Shackleton Chinn and the chief executive of the Low Carbon Hub, Dr Barbara Hammond.

Two awards went to oil and gas civil servants based in Aberdeenshire: Wendy Kennedy who is head of Offshore Oil and Gas Environment and Decommissioning at DECC and Bill Cattanach who works at the department’s oil and gas taskforce, now called PILOT.

Nuclear safety got a nod too, with EDF Energy’s Safety and Assurance Director for Nuclear, Gwen Parry-Jones, receiving an OBE for services to Science and Technology.

There was more success for women in energy, as the pair who founded the Women’s Network at the Department for Energy and Climate Change, Rebecca Jeffree and Rebecca Baldwin, each bagged an OBE for their services to gender equality in the workplace.
