Norway plans to reduce its carbon emissions by at least 40% by 2030.

The government said it will join the EU 2030 framework for climate policies to reach its targets.

Under the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol, Norway is committed to reduce its emissions by 30% by 2020.

Prime Minister Erna Solberg said: “Norway will reduce emissions by at least 40% by 2030. This will increase the level of ambition in Norwegian climate policies.”

The announcement comes after the EU Council put pressure on the European Parliament to speed up the Doha Amendment to the Kyoto Protocol.
