UK planning officials have accepted the 1.8GW Hornsea 2 wind farm for examination.

SMart Wind is proposing to develop the 360-turbine project, located around 89 kilometres off the Yorkshire coast.

It is the second offshore wind farm the company is proposing to build in the Hornsea Zone.

According to the Planning Inspectorate, it is now up to SMart Wind to invite people, including members of the public, to give their views on the project.

Simon Ridley, Chief Executive, Planning Inspectorate said. “After careful consideration we have decided on behalf of the Secretary of State that the application submitted by Smart Wind Ltd met the required tests set out in the legislation to be accepted for examination”.

The Energy Secretary will make a final decision following the public consultation.
